Do you dream of living in the countryside? Look no further! Contern welcomes you with its fabulous landscapes, its conviviality spaces and all its amenities. Only a quarter of an hour from the capital, this municipality of the Grand Duchy has managed to find the perfect balance between natural and cultural heritage, agriculture, industry, and commerce, to the delight of its 4,177 inhabitants.
Take valleys and forests as far as the eye can see, sprinkle generously with agricultural plots: this is the bucolic setting in which Contern has taken root and evolved with the times. The municipality boasts four villages where everyone can find their ideal home, more urban or more rural, according to their taste.
Although shops, services and health establishments are spread throughout the whole area, each village has its own infrastructures and meeting places to stimulate social networking. Not talking about the forty-one associations and numerous sports clubs.
Throughout the year, events such as the integration week, the sports night and the Christmas market are additional opportunities to make friends.
Contern is the most urban of the four villages, with a business park located at a good distance. It has restaurants, convenience stores and a Grand Frais supermarket, open from 8.30 am to 8 pm (9 pm on Fridays) and from 9 am to 1 pm on Sunday.
With its delicatessen, four restaurants, intercommunal nursery and Montessori nursery, this locality is a paradise for gourmets and young parents.
Third in population, Oetrange is doing well with its train station, spaced out housing and its Sunshine café hosting Potercafé night events.
The smallest and not least of the villages making up the municipality, it is also the most rural. A haven of peace for nature lovers.
A community open to all nationalities
Located on the south-eastern edge of the canton of Luxembourg, Contern inevitably attracts workers from all over the world. One third of its population is a patchwork of eighty nationalities. To facilitate the integration of foreigners, the municipality offers Lëtzebuergësch courses. Whether they speak French, English, German or Spanish, expatriates from all over the world enjoy meeting at the Potercafé to improve their language skills and share their experiences.
With an industrial zone of more than 110 companies that generate more than 5,000 jobs, the municipality is building its future with confidence.
Served by the two railway stations of Oetrange and Sandweiler-Contern, the municipality ensures that its citizens, especially young people, can benefit from the Internet network when they are gathering out.
As the birthplace of the international comic book festival created in 1994, the municipality also receives a monthly visit from the Bicherbus (library bus). In addition, each village has its own bicherkabin (book box).
