Located 30 km south-east of the Luxembourg capital, the village of Windhof is part of the municipality of Koerich. It takes half an hour to reach the village via the A7 motorway or the road to Arlon. Close to Belgium, it still offers real estate opportunities in a green setting, a few steps away from many services
While the municipality of Koerich has 2,600 inhabitants (half of whom live in the main town, and nearly 700 in Goebelange and more than 500 in Goetzingen, other municipal sections), Windhof only counts a hundred. However, its business area is flourishing.
→ Education and services
Windhof benefits from the educational facilities located in Koerich, in the immediate vicinity, where a basic school and a “maison relais” are located, and school buses take young people to the secondary school in Mamer, only a few kilometres away, to continue their studies.
As for shopping, the nearest business park includes a supermarket and retail outlets. In addition, the town of Koerich is home to a number of local shops mainly specialized in food (bakery, catering), several restaurants and a medical office. This proves that you can live in a village and not be isolated!
→ Culture and leisure
Living in Windhof means that you are only a few hundred meters away from first-rate heritage sites, such as the feudal castle of Koerich, which hosts cultural events in season, the church of St. Peter, a masterpiece of the Baroque style with its furniture and numerous works of sacred art, or the archaeological site of Goeblange, a vast Roman villa.
In everyday life, the music school and the Koerich youth centre are excellent suggestions for children activities.
In terms of sport and nature, a great number of walking paths invite you to discover a bucolic environment (woods, agricultural areas, riverbanks). There are also several playgrounds. As for sportsmen and women, young and old alike, the town offers a playing field and a gymnasium... And let's not forget that towns such as Esch or Mamer are very close by - and well served by road (bus) - for other activities.
The development of a major business park (the Windhof eco-park) has not “frozen” residential urbanization. Thus, current and planned development plans offer a certain potential for the construction of single-family homes.
Although the village has remained very small for a long time, it boasts ancient origins. It was already mentioned as a stop on the Roman road to Trier, an axis that was further developed when Trier became an imperial residence.
With the opening of the motorway in the 1970s and the subsequent development of the business park, Windhof turned a new page. Rapidly, the eco-park counted around 100 small and medium-sized companies with more than 500 employees. In addition to retail business, services and new technologies are now strongly represented. What a metamorphosis for this village, where there were only two cafés in the 19th century! But the fact remains that this flourishing economic environment has not overshadowed the predominantly rural and green landscape.
