Why Move to Ettelbruck?

A town with a project and a vision for 2030 

The municipality of Ettelbruck, in the centre of Luxembourg, has almost 9,189 inhabitants for a total area of 15 km2. The population is diverse, with more than 80 nationalities represented, a cultural asset for this town in the canton of Diekirch, which has managed to attract more than 2,000 new inhabitants in barely 10 years.

It is a modern and forward-looking city.

As the economic hub of the region, the town of Ettelbruck is betting on the development of trade and culture in order to attract people from the neighbouring countries, but also from the capital. With only five kilometres separating Ettelbruck and Luxembourg City, it is possible to make the journey on foot, by bicycle, by public transport or by car.

The city is working towards an ideal of a residential and recreational area with strong education and economic growth.

To define the objectives and ambitions of the city's various projects, a programme called “Urban Vision Ettelbruck 2030” has been specially designed.

Ettelbruck is also part of the large “Nordstad” development cluster, which includes four other municipalities: Bettendorf, Diekirch, Erpeldange and Schieren.

Ettelbruck, the history of a revolution 

The starting point of Ettelbruck's history is the 19th century. As a revolutionary wave swept through Europe, the municipality became the centre of debate on the Luxembourg's claims. The many inequalities and the lack of individual freedoms led the population to demonstrate their discontent against the rulers of the time.

Ettelbruck, like the whole of the territory, was in personal union with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which added further political pressure that was difficult to bear. The latter encouraged the Luxembourg people to intensify their protest against the government.

The adoption of a new constitution calmed down the climate of high tension. Ettelbruck is and will remain a municipality that has played an important role in changing the political and social model of the Grand Duchy.

Living in Ettelbruck 

Because the ecological transition is a crucial issue, this municipality of the centre of Luxembourg is committed to the subject. The link established between the environment, health and well-being encourages green initiatives on the part of the city's municipal teams.  

The emphasis is on awareness campaigns to reduce bad consumption habits and educate on the importance of waste sorting. But that's not all: for the city of Ettelbruck, concrete actions must follow political speeches. This is why it is participating in the “EarthCall” project, which aims to plant a tree in South Africa for every child enrolled in the municipality's schools.

A city that wants to be modern has to think about the mobility of its inhabitants. Bicycle paths and free public transport improve air quality and contribute to healthier and easier travel throughout the city.

1. The Patton Monument

The Patton Monument is an important landmark of Ettelbruck's past. It is a place steeped in history, which pays tribute to General George Smith Patton Jr. of the Third US Army, who liberated Ettelbruck on 25 December 1944. It is also one of the most visited and photographed places in the municipality.

2. Sebastian's Church

Built in 1841, the neo-Romanesque parish church is a popular tourist attraction. It is an opportunity to discover the architecture of this period, with paintings and religious objects illustrating the faith of thousands of Christians in the region.

Property prices in Ettelbruck 

The price per square metre in Ettelbruck for an old flat is 6,121 euros. Despite the proximity to Luxembourg-City, the property value remains reasonable and the accommodation affordable. For a new flat, you will have to pay 7,873 euros.

Whether it's walking through the town, soaking up the history represented by the ancient remains, or taking the back roads to observe the hilly landscapes that border entire forest areas... This city smells of escape.
